Na'ha Illahee Fund (NIF) is an Indigenous women-led organization dedicated to the ongoing regeneration of Indigenous communities.
Through grantmaking, capacity-building and community-based intergenerational programming,they seek transformative change by supporting culturally grounded leadership and organizing. Focused on Indigenous Ecology, Food Sovereignty, and Wise Action, they work to advance climate and gender justice, while creating healthy pathways towards self-determination and movement-building.

The Na'ah Illahee Fund (NIF) provides resources for Native communities across the Pacific Northwest who are located in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Na’ah Illahee Fund values and respects the dignity of all people. We work to combat all forms of gender-based violence against our Native people and work to help end the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & People (MMIWP). This NIF grant opportunity will provide financial support for innovative, collaborative activities that will raise awareness and develop partnerships working to end the crisis and fund those that help heal those left behind.
Na’ah Illahee acknowledges that our at-risk Native relatives are being targeted. For this reason, we advocate for women, girls, and two-spirit people’s access to quality, multi-sectoral services essential for their safety, protection and recovery from acts of violence. The Native American women murder rate is more than ten times the national average on some reservations. According to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (www.niwrc.org, 2021), many cases go undocumented, miscategorized or unaddressed.
WHAT WE SEEK TO SUPPORT:
We seek to fund Indigenous organizations, groups, individuals and Tribes/First Nations who dedicate time and resources to work on the epidemic of Gender Based Violence and Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women/People (MMIWP) in their communities.
This grant is aimed at subject matter experts and trusted messengers to victims and their families--those people who are doing the day-to-day work of addressing and working to help end gender based violence and MMIWP.
GRANT FUN AMOUNTS:
● Indigenous Individuals: $1,000 up to $5,000
● Indigenous Community Groups: $1,000 up to $10,000
● Non-profit organizations or Tribes/First Nation Bands: $1,000 up to $25,000
Examples of type of work we’re looking to fund:
● Those creating networks to find MMIWP (social media or other)
● Training communities to increase local skills toward intervention and prevention E.g. “How to do a proper search”
● MMIWP Indigenous-led research & data collection work
● MMIWP or Gender Based Violence Awareness campaigns
● Cultural Trainings and teachings to end violence towards indigenous women & children
● MMIWP media advocacy campaigns
● Trainings on trafficking interventions and prevention strategies & implementation
● Those working on independent advocacy in their communities through campaigns such as “Bad Date Lists”, i.e. known offenders to be on the lookout for
● Providing advocacy for MMIWP victims and their families; especially for children who are left behind
● MMIWP Policy advocacy grounded in recognition of tribal sovereignty work for reauthorization of Violence Against Women's Act, strengthening implementation of Savannah's Act and the Not Invisible Act
● Those providing MMIWP Peer Support and/or connecting MMIWP families to create healing opportunities
● Those working on MMIWP Survivor Resiliency by providing space for healing E.g. ribbon skirt classes for survivors and other creative ways
● Projects that serve and reach At-Risk Youth who are aging out of foster care, the highest demographic group who are targeted
● Those providing grief counseling therapy and Ambiguous Loss therapy (intergenerational trauma)
● Groups or programs that provide Aftercare Services for loved ones who come home
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
1. Indigenous or First Nation-led nonprofit organizations or community groups with Fiscal Sponsor (80%+ Indigenous people in a leadership role With Tribal Affiliation)
2. Indigenous Individuals or First Nation Individuals (With Tribal Affiliation)
3. Native American Tribes, First Nation Bands or Departments of Tribal Governments/First Nation Bands For NIF, Indigenous includes anyone who holds tribal affiliation/identifies with Indigenous nations in North, Central, or South America or identifies as Native Hawaiian.

WHAT TYPES OF GROUPS ARE WE UNABLE TO SUPPORT?
We are passionate about our beliefs and we want to be sure that the organizations that we support match our ethics. As a result, our organization does not provide grants to:
● Groups that practice or promote racism, sexism, homophobia, or any form of oppression or
● exploitation of other humans or the natural world
● Promote or support violence, aggression, or oppression or any infringement on other people
● Force, coerce or exclude others based on religious or spiritual beliefs
● Are not making an effort to be environmentally responsible
● Are connected to political parties, political rallies or otherwise partisan in their work
HOW DO YOU APPLY?
Applications are submitted via our online granting platform Submittable, it is a free service! You can pull Submittable up on your phone or computer. Please go to www.Submittable.com to create an account. Through Submittable we will ask for your basic contact information, individual and/or organization name, tribal affiliation, project name, name of Tribal or First Nation community served, governance structure and 501(c)3 EIN #.
We ask for a brief history of your organization, a paragraph telling us about your work, how it will address concerns in your community, who is involved, benefits it will have, and what other resources you may have access to in support of your project.The budgetary information we will ask for is required to determine your project feasibility. We understand that access to online platforms can be its own form of exclusivity.

HOW DO WE MAKE DECISIONS?
NIF funding priorities & how proposals are weighed:
● We will award grants that reach those most vulnerable in hard-to-reach places
● We aim to support those populations with little or no access to resources
● Grant applications will be reviewed by community grantmaking committee members during period of
● October 23 to November 5, 2021
● Awards will then be disbursed mid November 2021 Please understand that more than likely, NIF will be unable to provide support for all requests. The amount provided will be based on the availability of funds and the number of requests under review.
WHAT IS OUR GRANT PROCESS?
Apply - Applicants will completely fill out the application via Submittable before the deadline.
Review - Once the grant period has ended, the Grantmaking Committee will convene to review all received applications. The Grantmaking Committee will approve or deny recipients, and then award grant funds.
Notify - Recipients will then be notified via email. If approved, an award letter will be sent along with a check for the approved amount.
Reflect - Follow up from you: We want to know the outcomes, impacts and benefits your project will provide as well as how the grant funds were spent.
WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IF YOUR APPLICATION IS APPROVED?
he Grantmaking Committee will perform review of submitted applications from October 23 - November 5, 2021, award letters (and denials) will be sent mid November 2021. Na’ah Illahee Fund will send checks with award letters via U.S. mail.
Na’ah Illahee Fund will want to know what impact your efforts have had in your Native community and how the funds were spent. Final reporting is required by May 31, 2022 or sooner if the project is completed.

“Red Blanket Fund” | $1,000 award | Opens Sept. 13, 2021
While funds available
Na’ah Illahee Fund (NIF) will provide direct assistance to indigenous individuals and families most in need in the wake of this Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women People (MMIWP) epidemic. The NIF fund will wrap our blanket of support around Native families who are conducting searches for their missing loved ones, bringing awareness to the search, and aftercare for the family as needed. NIF provides this relief fund to our indigenous communities, who often face financial barriers in this current time of crisis!
A search for a loved one is costly and has a deep impact on families. NIF Red Blanket Fund is here to support those families who are in need of support during their time of crisis. NIF Red Blanket Fund Grant will cover these support areas for those involved in searches for missing relatives: search costs, awareness campaign work, healing ceremony work, after care for loved ones found and unfortunately funeral expenses when we need to send them home.
Specific expenses this grant will cover:
1. Searches - Funding is available to individuals leading the search:
● Gas money, meals, hotel stays as they search across the state or states
● Search expenses: water, sack lunches, gas money $25-$30 for each volunteer person driving to help with physical search
● Possible MOU with someone else who has tools to rent for use: metal detectors, drones, etc.
● Printing costs (color): banners, flyers, laminating cost, staple guns, graphics design
● Cell phone payments, internet service or trac phones
● Conducting targeted awareness campaign
● Fundraisers like T-shirts to sell to raise funds for search efforts (300 shirts cost $3,000)
● Costs for hiring a private detective
● Prayer walks
● Community vigils held by family for those lost
3. Aftercare services for families whose loved ones come home:
● Travel expense funds to get them back home
● Healing and doctoring ceremony costs for victims and family members
4. Funeral expenses:
● Burials for those found: Funeral home expenses, casket, stone setting, burnings, service, etc. (Requires providing a death certificate by next of kin in charge)
● Medicine people who are conduct sending them home ceremony and healing ceremonies
● Honorariums costs for speakers / healers
● Memorial costs (blankets, food, etc)
● Funding for lawyer expenses to obtain a Death Certificate or fund legal probate process

We understand during this time of need is very stressful but we need proof you have officially informed the authorities: Tribal police, City or County police, FBI Missing Persons Report, Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
We will need to receive a copy of a filed “Missing Person’s Report” so please have that on hand before you contact us for funding.

WHAT IS OUR GRANT PROCESS FOR THE “RED BLANKET FUND”?

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I APPLY?
Our intent is to help as many families as possible who are in need during this crisis. However, resources are limited. Please apply for funds only once so we can reach many families in their time of crisis.
